Board term: 2024 - 2027
Bill and wife Michelle first got involved volunteering at Safe Harbor in 2019, after hearing about it from a fellow parishioner at Leland Community United Methodist Church. Today, many know the Whites as co-founders of 5Loaves2Fish, a food outreach program for those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. The organization has provided the Monday night meal at the shelter since 2020. Bill also regularly volunteers as a facility manager at the shelter during the season.
He said the time for him to get even more involved is now.
White brings an extensive background in social services as a licensed social worker along with broad nonprofit and volunteer experience. He likes the direction the organization has been heading, with a board and staff that is “constantly moving forward” as it tackles challenges that have come along in recent years. “I’ve been involved in different groups, boards, and entities – all dealing with issues with a specific class.” said White. “I’m hoping I can bring some of that background, some of that understanding, and the ability to work with others to this role. I’ve always been an advocate for the underdog.”
